Blast Off! (宇宙旅行 uchūryokō lit. The Space Journey) is the first execution in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, with Jin Kirigiri being executed.

Sequence

The execution begins with a spotlight shining over Monokuma, who is sitting on the floor with his "Punishment Button". Across from him, Jin is tied to a chair with his eyes blindfolded and his hands tied behind his back. Monokuma watches as he struggles, until he suddenly pushes the "Punishment Button".

Jin is then locked inside a rocket shaped like an iron maiden with a Monokuma face and launched into a grotesque, cartoonish version of space (drilling through several floors of the academy along the way).

After losing speed, the rocket comes crashing down (as the moon and planet watch), reducing Jin's body to a skeleton due to the high temperature generated during the re-entry through the atmosphere. Once the rocket comes to a halt back in the classroom where it left, it reopens, revealing Jin's skeleton and the sad expression fixed on his skull. The execution ends with Monokuma coming forth in a mute, spastic, evil laugh.

Aftermath

Later in the final investigation, his skeleton is discovered inside a gift box by Kyoko Kirigiri and Makoto Naegi in the Headmaster's secret room.

Trivia

  • This is the only formal execution which involves an adult person and an actual staff member of Hope's Peak Academy.
  • In the prologue of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, you can spot a rocket with iron maiden shape on the television, this possibly referencing to the rocket that was used in this execution.
  • The rocket seems to be a reference to the Flatwoods Monster. Notably due to the head ot the top of the rocket.
  • The music used during Jin's execution is the same one during Leon Kuwata's execution. Furthermore, in the Danganronpa 1.2 Reload Ultra High School Class Official Settings Guide Book, there is a section where it shows execution artwork which also shows two pictures of the Ultimate Baseball Star being the one in this execution. This can either lead to believe that Leon was used as a "guinea pig" to try out execution ideas, or that originally this was supposed to be his before changing it.
