Cyber Danganronpa VR The Class Trial (known in Japan as Saibā Danganronpa VR Gakkyū Saiban, サイバーダンガンロンパシリーズVRクラストライアル) is a virtual reality demo of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, where players take part in a class trial similar to those in the original games. Players use "truth bullets" to counter arguments from their classmates.

Development

Back in July 2015 in the Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong 2015 event Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong announced “Cyber Danganronpa VR Class Trial”, a technology demo for Sony’s Project Morpheus Virtual Reality headset.

In October 2016 they officially released the demo in Japan and China for PlayStation 4. PEGI rated the game in Europe on Feburary 2, 2017. Spike Chunsoft announced one day after the release that they are working in bringing the game to the west. Spike Chunsoft revealed in their press conference that they will release the game in North America on March 7, 2017 and Europe on March 10, 2017.

Gameplay

Danganronpa VR takes players into a first-person version of Danganronpa's famous class trial gameplay segments, but with 3D models of the characters. Just like the first two games, you must figure out who among the class of students in the trial is guilty of murder. To start the game the player needs to turn their head toward the character who testified, and press a button on the DualShock 4 controller. At the end of the demo Monokuma stops the Trial and then punishes Makoto Naegi in first person experience.

Trivia

  • The demo, in both the English and Japanese versions, exclusively recycled dialogue from the Chapter 4 Class Trial of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, with the exception of one line in which Monokuma interrupts the gameplay during the Class Trial:
    • In the Japanese version of Cyber Danganronpa VR, the game re-uses a recording from the end of the Japanese-exclusive Trial Version of Danganronpa 1, in which Monokuma says "Hold it right there! That's as far as I can let you go. Because, I mean... this is just the demo!"[2]
    • In the English version of Cyber Danganronpa VR, because there was no English version of the Danganronpa 1 demo, Brian Beacock recorded a translated version of this line, which says "Hold on just a second! I can't let you go on any further... because this is just a demo!", making it the only non-archival line within Cyber Danganronpa VR.
