This article covers Byakuya Togami's School Mode events, which feature in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. In this article you will find a guide to which trip options will give the best results, full transcripts of each trip, and transcripts of his Trigger Happy Heart event and School Mode ending.
After choosing where to go on a trip, Makoto will have a series of conversation topics to choose from. Depending on the option chosen, Makoto will receive a different response:
Best Option
1 heart
Good Option
½ heart
Bad Option
No hearts
Worst Option
No hearts
When getting close to 10 full hearts, Byakuya's Trigger Happy Heart event will be triggered, which will give Makoto an insight into Byakuya's inner thoughts.
Achieving 10 hearts will unlock Byakuya's ending at the end of School Mode. On the 51st day of School Mode, Makoto will be alone in the Gym with any characters that the player has earned full max reputation with. Talking to them will trigger a final dialogue choice option. If the player selects the correct answer, they will receive that character's special present - that character's underwear. This will also unlock a heart icon next to that character's picture's on subsequent playthroughs of School Mode.
Trips[]
Dining Hall[]
Want something to drink?
Well...how considerate of you. I'll have a coffee, then. Drip brew only.
Make sure it's civet coffee. I accept no substitutes.
...That's a pretty tall order.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
For breakfast, Japanese style is best.
Where does such a standard of judgement come from? Certainly you're not just saying that because you're Japanese, are you?
An empty statement inspired by a pitiful, microscopic worldview.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
When I'm starving, it's burger time!
Fatty junk food loaded with empty calories. A stupid meal for a stupid person. I don't understand why anyone would ever eat one.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
What are you into these days?
Cleansing the administrators of this school in a purifying holocaust. Starting with that Monokuma, who has taken control of this school and so involved me in this wretchedness. I must weed out all those who obstruct me.
But don't worry. I'll install an entirely new administration as soon as I'm done.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
I wanna watch TV...
You shouldn't rely on the 24-hour news cycle. It's simply another way to abandon your own judgment. You should take this opportunity to wean yourself from that intellectual position.
...What's that supposed to mean? Is that supposed to be funny? Sorry, but your mere existence is already enough of a joke.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
What should we talk about?
Any meaningful conversation between you and me is completely impossible. Just how desperate have you become?
Oh, that's right. You were hoping to make some kind of "connection" with me, right? That's actually a wise decision. Perhaps that's enough for me to remember your face.
But if you want me to remember your name? You'll have to do a lot better than that.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Do you like cup ramen?
That's the lord and ruler of all junk food. I know of its existence, but I would never eat it myself. The only instant food I approve of is sushi.
But...sushi isn't instant. Or are you saying for you, it is...?
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Do you know how to cook?
What are you talking about? Food is prepared by a chef. That's how this works.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
School Store[]
I want this awesome armor!
*Sigh* I knew you were going to say that. I have no words for your level of childish idiocy. Anyone who would use these symbols of power to try and increase their own esteem is less than nothing.
But do you know why powerful people originally chose to use things like this as decorations? You should try to find an answer to that, to avoid embarrassing yourself further.
He just doesn't stop, does he...?
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
What's the last movie you saw?
Movies, eh? They're a hobby of mine, it's true. But I'm sure I haven't seen any of the filth you must watch. If you wish to get on my level...
...I'd be happy to educate you on some of the more elementary titles that even you may comprehend.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
I remember those toy vending machines!
Vending machine...? Hey, what is this? Show me how it operates.
Oh, sure. You just put a coin in like this, then you just turn the knob.
And in exchange, a prize comes out? So it's a way to test your luck, then...
Listen, don't get the wrong idea. Someone like me has no interest in this kind of distraction. That's why I didn't know about it...
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
There's all kinds of paintings here...
It is an insult to display these works so casually. I should add them to the Togami Corporation art museum.
Actually, wait... Very nearly all of these are forgeries.
Hmph. You may fool the eyes of mere commoners, but *my* discriminating intellect is not so weak.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Let's organize things in here a little...
What would be the point?
If that's how you wish to spend your time, I'll go ahead and leave you here to get to it...
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
That's a pretty cute doll.
It's an actual antique... It's actually quite tasteful.
But I never imagined such a unique item would catch your eye. You may be in need of a slight re-evaluation.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
What's a lantern doing in here?
Yes, why *does* this place have so many useless items?
But such a question is, itself, useless. Stop subjecting me to your meaningless existence.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Let's dig for treasure!
What the hell are you talking about? Play your children's games on your own time.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Library[]
I love reading!
I'm the same, I won't deny it. But the distance between what you and I read is greater than the distance between the sun and the moon.
And I don't just mean what types of books we read. There is some information in this world that only a privileged few have access to. Criminal records, for one. And—
Ah, but I've said too much.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Should we spend some time studying?
...You think I need to study? Even if I *did* decide to study something, there's simply no way you could keep up with me.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
I'm gettin' kinda sleepy...
Do you not understand that we have been *trapped* in here?
There's no guarantee of safety. Falling asleep unprotected is the height of folly.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Just reading casually isn’t enough, is it?
If you just skim over the surface of a source of information, it slides right off of you. Once you truly put that information to use, only then does it become part of you.
I'm glad to see you understand that much. I hope you can prove it's not *all* you understand.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
They even have textbooks here, huh?
You're right. A quick glance tells me they've collected a wide variety of subjects.
Still, it doesn't quite stack up to what the Togami Corporation has access to.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
What's your favorite kind of book?
What's the point of the question? Why should I answer that? Why do I need to proclaim my preferences for the world to see?
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Wanna go check out that back room?
I wouldn't recommend it. Curiosity killed the cat, as they say.
Your best bet to survive as a commoner is close your eyes, cover your ears, and keep your head down.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
I just wanna read comics...
I admit that there are a few rare works out there which have received worldwide acclaim...
...but the majority of comics are empty sludge pumped into the mouths of mindless consumers.
I don't know what your "standard" is, but I understand that this school has the world's best facilities. It seems such a waste to place them before you commoners. Like pearls before swine...
You should spend more time thinking about your own limitations.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Kinda boring here, huh...?
You made me come all the way up here, and that's all you have to say? What the hell is wrong with you?
Instead of just saying that, why don't you show me what one of the unwashed masses is capable of?
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Maybe there's someone in the locker...
Where'd you get that idea? What kind of ridiculous ghost story are you trying to tell? A waste of time, a waste of oxygen...
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Let's play some pool.
Oh? I didn't expect you to suggest *that*. I must admit, I'm surprised you have any idea how to play.
So, what shall we play? One-pocket? Bank pool? Or just a trick shot showdown?
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Wanna play Othello?
...I suppose it's a decent way to kill some time. Very well, let's play. But I won't hold back...
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Let's give darts a shot.
I have no desire to play a vulgar workman's game invented by drunk sailors in the local tavern. Choose anything else, and *perhaps* I'll indulge you.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Is that a slot machine back there...?
Good question. This is a school, isn't it? Why would they put something like that in here?
Maybe it's for you, Makoto. I can't imagine too many other ways for you to show off that “lucky student” talent of yours.
So, go ahead. Let's see it in action.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
What kinds of magazines do you like?
Economic periodicals, mainly. Let me guess—you prefer gossip magazines and comic collections?
...Ah, the gambling girl. I have no interest in her.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Music Room[]
I'd love to go to a concert or something.
Hm? Are you interested in music? If you wish, I can take you to the National Concert Hall. It has the world's greatest facilities, and of course the world's best musicians to go along with it.
Try as you might, someone like you could never fully experience such a performance. But you know, perhaps if I felt like it, I could...
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Can you play any instruments?
All the standard ones, yes. It's part of a typical education for one who would call himself a Togami.
Showing any weakness opens the door to defeat. My knowledge is my armor. Not that someone like you could even imagine what I'm talking about.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
I'm a big fan of music.
There are limitless types of music. Are you saying you're a big fan of all of them? That may be the most shallow statement I have ever heard.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
You think this room might be haunted?
I'm glad you said that. It further solidifies in my mind just what an ignorant fool you are.
Fate dictates that members of the herd such as you find themselves consumed by predators like me. How sad when they imagine themselves in any kind of meaningful role. But you see it now, don't you? The cruel but inevitable fate of mindless livestock?
You have my pity, of course. You play out your hopeless life, yet you never truly live. Now *that* is a truly frightful ghost story.
Jeez, he just says whatever he feels like, huh...?
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
This piano looks expensive...
It does have a classic, regal feel to it. But it's intended for whatever ultimate musician may want to use it, right? So it's only natural.
Not that I couldn't play it if I wanted to, but... ...I didn't bring any sheet music with me. Too bad. For you, I mean.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Wanna try singing together with everyone?
Go ahead, be my guest.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Maybe we should go somewhere else...
Finally, you've said something halfway intelligent. It was foolish of you to bring me here in the first place. Not that it's the first foolish thing you've done since I met you. Or the most severe.
Standing around here is a waste of time. Let's go.
Whatever... Even the most famous pop song is forgotten within a year. Mindless drivel.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
I wanna do some karaoke.
You would indulge yourself by simply imitating that which you long for? How terribly foolish.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Garden[]
It's super humid in here, huh?
It seems they're raising a variety of tropical plants here. Although...there's one plant here I've never seen before. Where did it come from...? Is this the result of the efforts of another ultimate student? Interesting...
Perhaps I could incorporate their work into the foundation of a new business enterprise.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Look at those chickens!
This place smells...repugnant. We need to go somewhere else. Now.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Wanna do some gardening?
...Will you be paying for my dry cleaning when we're done? Hmph. Of course not. As if you could afford it.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
You wanna do some flower viewing?
... Oh, sorry. Your utterly simplistic statement left me at a loss for words.
Still...I suppose we need *some* sort of recreation. I suppose I can join you. I hope you appreciate my sacrifice.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
We can't eat these chickens...
I'm almost afraid to ask, but... ...what if it was a nice, big animal like a cow? Would you slaughter it yourself and devour it?
What kind of barbarian are you? I can't believe we're even the same species.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Do you like this place?
No, not at all. Are you so lacking in imagination that you actually find comfort here? If we have no business here, let's get going...
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Something seems off...
What, you mean something seems off about me being in a place like this? Is that what you mean? You're honest, Makoto. I'll give you that. Honesty is a virtue, but also a good way to shorten your life span.
Still...interesting. Perhaps it's best for someone like me to keep people like you around. You know...irregular people.
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
The happy blue sky kinda cheers me up...
That disgraceful charade? Simple people indulge in simple pleasures, I suppose.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
I'd love to just lay down and go to sleep.
Did you bring me here to make me listen to your empty daydreams? It was foolish of me to think you could do anything other than waste my time.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
General Reactions[]
These dialogues are the reactions Makoto will receive at the end of the trip, depending on which choice was made.
Best Option
It's grown so late already...
Look how you've consumed my precious time. Perhaps it was too great an honor for you... Well, I expect you to make the same effort to earn such an honor next time, as well.
So then...let's go.
Good Option
I suppose there are worse fates than spending some idle time on your worthless invitations. Frankly, I didn't think you would ever convince me of that. Let's see if you can do the same thing next time...
Well then...we should head back.
Bad Option
Such a waste of time... If you're going to beg me to indulge you, at least make adequate preparations to entertain me.
No need to accompany me back. Goodbye.
Worst Option
I never want to see your face again. Understand? Hmph.
Trigger Happy Heart[]
Trigger Happy Heart is a minigame in School mode. It uses mechanics similar to the Non Stop Debate trial minigame during Class Trials. During this event, Makoto will get insight into Byakuya's inner thoughts, and can refute or confirm something he is anxious about by using special Truth Bullets called "negation" and "affirmation". Successfully navigating this event is necessary to unlock Byakuya's ending.
Transcript[]
Byakuya's Trigger Happy Heart
Makoto is an exceedingly dull boy.
From everything he's told me, from the expectations he's set for himself...
...I have not a single shred of interest in him. This is clear to me now.
He doesn't even comprehend that he and I live in different worlds.
He is no different from the rest of the roiling masses out there.
To even stand here eye to eye with him makes me ill.
He knows nothing about fighting, about struggling.
All those ignorant cattle covet only peace and tranquility.
Options[]
Affirmation: he and I live in different worlds
You and me do live in different worlds, it's true.
Why are you telling me what I already know? Are you nervous, standing before me like this?
No, nothing like that. But so much of the time, I don't understand the things you say.
Why should you? It's impossible for a commoner to understand the inner workings of a noble.
It shows a certain wisdom for you to recognize that you could never call yourself my equal. If you see yourself as having a tragic life, then you'll never rise above others.
Do you have what it takes to climb over them?
It looks to me like he had a really good time.
Negation: He knows nothing about fighting, about struggling
We might be a dime a dozen to you, but we're fighting right alongside you in all this...! Maybe we don't all have an extra special life, but we still have normal lives we want to protect!
You have passion, I see that. But the battle you're engaged in is nothing compared to what I went through. It's a child's game.
If all you care about is self-satisfaction, you should remain on a level that can provide that.
I think we both had a pretty good time.
Affirmation: He knows nothing about fighting, about struggling
I don't want to have to do that. I don't want to have to fight other people to improve my own life.
That's just an excuse. You avoid the struggle and use that to justify your position in life. These are the thoughts of an unmotivated loser.
If you simply exist, you're no different from any other piece of livestock.
I get the feeling he didn't have much fun...
Negation: He and I live in different worlds
Right now, we're on the same level. We're in the same place, standing face to face.
Hmph. What do you know? Swinging your immature metaphysical theories around like you're someone. You need to recognize your limitations.
I don't think things could have gone any worse than that. Crap...
Byakuya's Ending[]
If Makoto has achieved all 10 hearts by the 51st day of School Mode, Makoto will unlock Byakuya's ending.
Byakuya's School Mode Ending
I decided to talk to Byakuya one more time before we all left... I wonder if this is the last time we'll ever see this place... The time we spent here didn't make much sense, but...looking back, I can't say I didn't have fun. There are still some mysteries left. What was Monokuma, really? Why'd we end up here? I still don't have answers, but I'll have time to figure all that out once we escape...
So, our time here has come to an end. Still, I have no intention of leaving things as they are.
I *will* find out why we all got caught up in this deplorable situation. After all, I am the chosen. My Togami name demands total victory.
What was Monokuma's true identity? And what was he trying to accomplish here? In this case, victory means exposing those truths.
Well...for me, it's not about winning or anything. I just...need to know. I have to know why we had to go through something like this.
So what, you expect me to come running to you with any details I might happen to dig up? Who are you to ask that of me?
W-Wait, I...
If you really want to know the truth... If you really want to win, you must earn it for yourself.
Okay, but...there's no way I can do this by myself.
... Listen, Makoto. Do you plan to help me or what?
What!?
I'm asking what your intentions are. Are you going to help me punish whoever is responsible for this?
H-Hold on! Why me...?
How could the Ultimate Lucky Student help?
How could the Ultimate Lucky Student help? To be totally honest, even I don't see any way I could really help...
Don't misunderstand. I have never needed and will never need to depend on luck to win. "Luck" means nothing in the Togami family.
It sounds like he thinks he can conquer fate... If that's really how he feels, I can't think of any way to object to that. But still, why...?
I don't have any useful talents...
I don't have any useful talents...
You don't have to tell *me* that. I'm not asking for your talent.
What I'm saying is that I will find a way to make some use of a useless nobody.
B-But that's...
I'm just another normal person...
I'm just another normal person... You told me never to talk to you again, right?
... It is annoying to admit, but... ...the time I spent here made me realize one thing.
What was it...?
The more time I spent with all of you, the more I saw just how ignorant you all are. I've spent my entire life learning how to lead. The way you live is incomprehensible to me. But *because* I don't understand it...
...it might be good for me to keep an ordinary person like you around, to explain it to me. There is no point in trying to understand the foolish ideas of the masses myself.
Okay, so...you want me to be your secretary...?
With the promised salary. 550,000 dollars a year. And if that's not good enough, I'll gladly pay you more. Do we have a deal?
He phrased it as a question, but it had the unmistakable feel of a command. But even though we'd become closer...I could still feel that distance between us.
Well? Hurry up and answer, you clod.
Umm...well, the salary part doesn't really matter.
What do you mean? Do you not want to be paid?
I mean, regardless of that...I want to help you. So...I'll do my best, Byakuya.
One mistake and you're fired. Understand?
I'd made my decision. I'd taken control of the direction of my life, and it led me to Byakuya. Now my goal is to show Byakuya that the way I live *can* bring someone happiness. For the first time since coming to this school, a vivid image of the future filled my heart... And that's how my school life at Hope's Peak Academy came to an end...
After completing Byakuya's school mode ending, you will receive the following Present:
102. Byakuya's Undergarments
Byakuya's favorite high-end underwear. It comes from the only brand that the truly elite will wear. All of his family's underwear is made to order, in order to show that no matter how much money some no-name upstart may have, they'll never be a Togami.
