Miu can be unlocked by collecting her card from the Card Death Machine. After being collected, she is a playable character in the minigames Ultimate Talent Development Plan and Despair Dungeon: Monokuma's Test.

This set of sprites are found within in the game files, however they don't appear during normal gameplay. Kazutaka Kodaka stated in New Danganronpa V3 Official Setting Materials Collection the sprite would be used when Miu got angry, but due to "ethical reasons" the development team was forbidden from using it in-game.
